Harry Roscow Trophy - August 2019

This second and last competition of the year for the Harry Roscow Trophy, somewhat truncated. Playing an all-day Scone Bowls Club Open Pairs Competition on Sunday, the tussle for the Trophy is restricted to three matches each of twelve ends on Friday evening. Toss coins, me and Andrew playing first.

Andrew takes an early lead and at the midpoint is 2-5 ahead. His line a bit too good, on end eight and my jack it's up the green with the mat. Seems to work, the next three ends to me for a 7-5 lead. Penultimate end to Andrew. As we go into the final end it's 7-7. I get two to win 9-7.

Only need to win against Robert to retain the Trophy. Look on schedule at halfway, leading 5-2. Another two on end seven, but Robert thought he was only one down. Suddenly he's more focused and the next three ends are his, now 7-6 to me. The penultimate end is tight. Robert is sitting with a close two as I bowl my second last. Manage to rest against his closest, now one to me. With his last he knocks me out. He's now three up! Just miss with my last bowl. Now two down! Manage to pull one back. Robert wins 8-9.

The third match between Robert and Andrew is played the following day. Bit damp, and without a marker, since I can't be there. Victory to Andrew 12-7.

With each of us winning one and losing one the decision goes to bowls difference. The winner is Andrew, tally shown below. The image at the top of the post shows me reluctantly handing over the Trophy for safekeeping until Spring 2020.
Scorecards are shown below. For a summary of all results to date and the story behind the Trophy, click here. And the Open Pairs on Sunday? Both me and Robert and Andrew and his partner didn't get past the mini league stage ~:0(
